On March 26 – 28th the West Monona FCCLA members traveled to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to attend the State Leadership Conference. Members attending the conference were: Abagail Wessel, Ava Stangel, Emma Jensen, Jalyn Struble, Joslin Gaukel, Kaylee Goslar, and Sophia Woodward. Each of these members has been working on projects to prepare for the competition. Abagail Wessel is the 2022-2023 Vice President of National Programs. Abagail presented awards to members from across the state, and conducted sessions on Mental Health. West Monona was proud to have Emma Jensen and Jalyn Struble both run for State FCCLA Office. Jalyn Struble was elected Iowa FCCLA State President and Emma Jensen was elected Iowa FCCLA Vice President of Parliamentary Law. Both officer candidates have been preparing for this day. They both took a knowledge test, gave a 2-minute speech to over 500 members, and answered a situational question on stage. Abagail Wessel and Ava Stangel completed a STAR Event (STAR stands for Students Taking Action with Recognition) their project was titled “She Eats, She Scores” They earned Top Gold and will advance to National FCCLA Conference this July in Denver. Abagail and Ava also earned an Award of Excellence for State/National Student Body Peer Education. They completed three projects and educated their peers. Joslin Gaukel, Kaylee Goslar, and Sophia Woodward earned Top Gold for their STAR Event, Chapter Service Project Display. The project they have completed is titled “Care Closet”. Joslin and Kaylee also received a Peer Education Team award for Power of One.
Elementary yearbooks are in! If you would like to purchase one, they are available in the Elementary office for $20. Cash or check accepted. If you already ordered one, they will be coming home with your student.

Happy Monday Spartans! The golf teams are back in action today! The girls' golf team is heading to Ida Grove Golf and Country Club, tee time is set for 4 pm. The boys' varsity team is heading to Holstein Country Club, tee time is set for 4 pm. The boys' JV golf team will be in Mapleton today at Willow Vale Golf Club, tee time is set for 4 pm. Happy Golf Friday Spartans!!! The boys and girls golf teams kick off their seasons today at home vs. OABCIG and MVAOCOU! Because of the potential weather, the golf meet will start at 2:00pm. GO SPARTANS!!!
As the weather is warming up, elementary students should still make sure to bring a coat to school every day. The mornings are still chilly and they will need a coat, in order to go outside for recess. Thanks so much! Enjoy your weekend!

ART FANS! The Western Valley Conference Art Show will be hosted by West Monona on March 23. High school art students from all conference schools will be competing in this yearly event. The main gym in the high school building will be open from 12:30 pm- 2:00 pm for public viewing. The presentation of awards and the judges’ comments will start at 1:00 pm. The public is welcome to view the show and share in the celebration of Youth Art Month.
