West Monona is in need of a long-term sub from Aug 24 - October 17, 2020 in Middle School/Elementary Art. Candidates must be licensed as a substitute teacher in Iowa. Outside groups are not allowed by law to bring food in the school to sell or donate during the COVID Pandemic. Therefore, we will not be having any tailgates at football games this year. Iowa Law-- Concession stands at a sporting, social, community, leisure, or recreational gathering or event, including but not limited to a parade, festival, convention, or fundraiser, must follow the Guidance for Iowa Concession Stands, Temporary Food Events, and Farmers Markets During COVID-19. Concession stands that are located on school property are not allowed to operate at this time. This includes concessions operated by an entity which independently holds a food establishment license separate from the school’s food license (e.g., a school booster organization or other independent contractor). Spartan HS Volleyball Practice will start Monday, August 10th with conditioning from 8-10am and practice from 1:30-4pm. Any girl interested in playing needs to show up the first day with appropriate clothing, shoes, knee pads, a mask and a water bottle. Email Ms. Rewinkel with any questions.

Many have contacted me regarding registration for 2020-21 and continuous learning. Please register your student as you normally would, and then contact your child's principal via email or phone to notify them of your choice for continuous learning. Once registration concludes your principal will mail you a form to fill out for the continuous learning model. Google Classroom, SeeSaw and Canvas are several of the systems teachers may use to deliver instruction to your student online. tim.chesnut@westmonona.org

The West Monona High School Weight Room will be reopened tomorrow (Wednesday, 8/5/20) to those in the community who purchased key fobs for the year. Please adhere to the following guidelines while using the facility: 1.) No more than 10 people in the weight room at a time. 2.) Spray or rub off equipment with disinfectant after use, 3.) Use hand sanitizer, 4). Wear a mask when 6 feet of social distancing can't be maintained.

Community members who purchased key fobs will receive credit on next year's membership for the time the facility was closed due to the pandemic.

We ask that public key fob use of the weight room does not interfere with Spartan student-athlete & team usage of the facility. For the remainder of the summer West Monona HS boy's teams will be in the weight room M,T, Th, F from 6:30-7:30 a.m. MS boy's teams from 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. on T &Th, and West Monona HS Girl's teams M, W, F from 8:00 - 9:30. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

High school cross country practice will begin on Monday, August 10th at 8am. All athletes must have an active physical on file with the school to participate. Please contact Coach Hamblen or Coach Nelson with any questions.

The varsity softball game against Whiting tomorrow night (7/9/20) will begin at 5:30 with 3 innings of JV to follow after the varsity game.

The BB game for tonight vs MVAOCOU will now be played at home. Varsity only at 7:00 pm.

Spartan Fans: The WVC superintendents voted to charge admission for the BB/SB conference tournaments. Admission to the tournament is $5 per person. WVC passes will be honored but school passes will not be honored. Please plan accordingly and bring cash for admission. Thank you in advance and GO SPARTANS!

With a dominant 14-2 victory over Westwood, the Spartan softball team finishes with an undefeated conference record and a Western Valley Conference regular season championship!!

Tonight is the make up game vs Westwood for BB/SB. SB starts JV at 5:30, BB is varsity only at 7:00. Seniors and their parents will be recognized before the varsity games. A win by the softball team will clinch the outright WVC regular season championship!

The city of Onawa is having a fireworks display tonight for the class of 2020. It will be held between the fairgrounds and pool around 9:45pm. All are welcome to attend. Please practice social distancing.

There have been changes in the schedule for Saturday’s SB tourney. The Spartans will now play LeMars Gehlen at noon and Trinity Christian at 1:45. Both games will be at the Westwood HS field.
